Di Tre Re: Homage to Honegger (2005)
A collage of MIDI-manipulated prerecorded audio and
electronically generated sounds, using Reason, Cubase, Metasynth and
ReCycle
NOTES:
The first movement Arthur Honegger's Symphony No. 5 "Di Tre Re"
is a very moving work. When it came time to do a final project for Dr.
Kathryn Alexander's music technology class in the fall of 2005, I chose
to create a sound collage centered on material taken from the first
movement of the work. I composed and recorded some original material
for both piano and viola. I ran this material, as well as
excerpts from the symphony itself, through Metasynth effects ranging
from granular synthesis and spectrum analysis to resonance and stereo
echo. I added scream distortion to the viola and noise vocoding to the
orchestra using Reason. I used ReCycle and Reason to create some
background loops. Finally I used Cubase to trigger MIDI events and
apply gain and panning adjustments.
